I definitely disagree. The discussion of race should NOT be the forefront of this process. And it definitely should not be led by someone who’s made such “seemingly” divisive comments like Rev. Wright. Despite whether or not his comments were taken out of context, his words have, in fact, negatively affected Obama’s campaign. As an African American women, I can 100% understand where he’s coming from. Of course. But lets not get off course. This is NOT necessary. This is not a barbershop conversation. We’re trying to influence real change. In order for that to happen, we do not need this man on a media blitz in an effort to restore his ego while damaging Obama’s campaign. I’m so annoyed.
And if he refer’s to himself in the third person once more, or Barack Obama, I will scream.
my name implies my white woman identity and my view is there are better places for discussions of race (like churches, my all white congregation has recently been making connections with AA churches in town, its in early stage or I’d look there for perspective). I’m just sad for the loss as I see Barack’s opportunity slipping away.
Open -> Clips of Rev. Wright, Clinton saying we can obliterate Iran and pretty much anything from McCain’s crazy talk express (or maybe clips of the three acting both collected and crazy) followed by Barack saying its time to get serious and finally bring an end to “silly season”. ->Out.
The key is comparing a surrogate to people who are actually running, implying that if you think this guy is nuts listen to these two kooks that are actually vying for the presidency. The Rev. is no more bipolar than either of them, all seeming to swing radically between egotistical and empathic, crazy and caring.
To everything there is a season and reason. I don’t understand all the string-pulling behind the scenes to orchestrate the distractions (yes, even possible truths can become distractions when out of place) but then MLK did say that it’s always to right time to do what is right and maybe something is going on that is bigger than all the players (Obama, Clinton, McCain, Wright…).
We do know that Australia just this year acknowledged and apologized for forcefully taking native children from their parents to assimilate them into Aussie-Euro-ways. For some people, the “adult food” of this truth is too heavy and “divisive”. For others, their minds are able to process and digest the adult food and understand without being distracted. The same goes for the US government’s experiments of the past. If a government can use scientists to create concoctions of chemicals which can kill human life many times over, can’t it do just about anything? If a government can arm others and support them in killing while hiding its hand in the matters, can’t it do many other things? If the wealthiest government on earth can allow greedy bankers and lenders to lie and trick people into predatory loans or to allow gross and extreme disparities can’t it give a wink or a nod at many things? What about the torture, and attempted extra-judicial (outside of the law) CIA (government) flights and jails of suspected – but not proven in courts of law – terrorists; including some who might be innocent?
These are all very close to documented truth (adult food vs. baby food). The fact that we do not at this time nor did we in the past have transparent government keeps some of these things in the dark. Devious people who have access to the information can hide it then whip you on the head for speculating on the system and motives of what happened in the past or what continues to happen. The citizen populations are made uninformed, the exact opposite of what a number of the founding fathers ideally hoped for this country. This is wrong.
So understand the rope-a-dope machine and the rope-a-dope game that is being played. Adult-up and start being less scared of the possible truths. Believe me, they will use suspicion and hear-say on you, me, Obama at the drop of a hat if it means discrediting us, confusing us or them winning and “keeping on” what they’ve got “going on”.

In an effort to not repeat you, I’ll write it backwards — woW.
The honest discussion on race in this country is about to begin, with or without the media.
God bless The United Church of Christ!

I’ve defended Wright in the past….now…I believe he is throwing Obama under the bus. This was unnecessary.

was hoping to find a few more thoughts here on Rev. Wright. I’m in agreement with brightstarr and B. Herbert:
