There are two very important stories here, neither of which involve Clinton’s mispronunciation of Menovich’s name:
1) A more complete clip of this segment in the debate reveals that Clinton’s view of Global politics is just as two dimensional as those of George Bush. Taken in conjunction with the recent footage of Hillary Clinton telling a town hall that “Putin has no soul,” one can easily see her tripping haphazardly into a second Cold War. Link
2) After briefly talking about the American view of Russia, this Russian journalist did something that we are no stranger to in the United States–she imposed powerful values of nationalism over her story and disguised them as objective facts. The segments focus on The Onion’s fake story was not relevant to to the debate, or US-Russian relations. However, it did serve to discredit Clinton’s implicit critique of Russian democratic institutions by redirecting the focus to Americans’ disillusionment with their own democracy.
note– now that he’s silenced critical media, Putin enjoys an approval rating of something like 80% (last i checked)
