Weren’t estimates of Romney’s net worth closer to $300 million a year ago? I guess he’s spent more on his own campaign than we thought lol.
December 11, 2007 at 1:06 am
Fred’s an actor; I thought it would be more..LOL
McCain’s money comes from his wife.
They should be able to see where Bill Clinton got his money from – who has been paying for his speeches?
Rudy G – um, what folks, related to terrorists, have been giving him money? That he thinks that the public doesn’t have the right to know who has been PAYING HIM is ridiculous.
I have no problem with Romney or Edwards. Edwards earned his millions as payment for winning for his clients.
Romney – born rich; got richer. He’s a slimy piece of plastic with no principles; I guess that’s why he was so good in business.

The Obamas are at 1.3 million? That can’t be right. I thought their net worth was a lot more than that.

You can click the Money magazine link to verify and see details of how they earned their money.

No, the Obamas net worth should not be a lot more. Barack wasn’t making any money in his jobs and Michelle just had begun to earn 200K when she left her position to campaign.
The majority of their money has come in from his book sales following his DNC speech and the new book Audacity of Hope.
I would not be surprise if most of their net worth is their home.

What is the net worth of Huckabee? Duncan? Keyes? etc…

Obama’s book sales erased the debt he and wife accrued through student loans, etc.
Someone will come along and unite this country. Would you rather it be a Democrat or a Republican. McCain? You want more wars…then fine, vote for him. Hillary? No way Hillary can…half the electorate won’t vote for her. Obama can do it.
There’s a new dynamic on the horizon. Let it rise, people.

As much as I find your blog generally interesting, I think this post is disingenuous for the following reasons:
- You arbitrarily stop your tally at Barack, implying that he is the presidential candidate with the lowest net worth–which is, of course, not the case. But that’s the implication, which is why other commenters are asking about the net worth of Biden, Huckabee, etc. It’s a pretty arbitrary list because it includes dropouts (Edwards, Rudy, Thompson), but leaves out a current contender like Mike Huckabee and the insurgent Ron Paul who is still participating.
- For some reason, your Money Magazine link directs to Page 2, skipping Page 1 (Hillary Clinton). I backed up a page to Hillary and read this: “When Bill Clinton first ran for President in 1992, Hillary provided most of the couple’s income working for the Rose law firm in Little Rock; he earned only $35,000 a year as governor of Arkansas.” It doesn’t say so explicitly, but it seems that the Clintons had a lower net worth when they ran for office than Obama has now. I’d like to see what Michelle Obama’s net worth is ten years after a Barack Obama two-term presidency.
- Our country doesn’t punish wealthy populists who fight for the freedom of the struggling classes… many of whom were our Founding Fathers and authors/signers of the Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, and The Bill of Rights. I didn’t love John Edwards and I wouldn’t have voted for him if he was still in the race on Super Tuesday, but I have great respect for the fact that he is the only candidate addressing the corporatocracy and class struggle in this country. Hillary and Barack can plagiarize his war on poverty, but neither will address class. Why would Barack address class?… ten years from now he intends to be much higher on that Money Magazine list.

Another perspective about Hillary. She actually loaned her campaign more money (as a percentage of her net worth) than Romney… Her loan of $5m is 14.3% vs his loan of 11.4%.
Something just makes me very uncomfortable about this…

Cindy McCain’s net worth is listed at “about” $100 million on a number of reputable sites. Why so low here?

Obama has no ability to unite this country. He want to turn us into the UK or Canada. He is a Socialist and a not so borderline communist. He supports turning our cities into sanctuaries for violent and felonious illegal aliens and wants to give them access to drivers licenses and our health care system. He does not even salute the flag of our country. He is against free speech (as is Nancy Pelosi) and wants to make insulting people a hate crime. Are you serious? This man is a two faced , double talking, liar and snake. And whomever said Romney is a slimy piece of plastic with no morals is a jackass. The man probably has higher moral standards than 99% of the country id not the world. Why don’t you just say what you really were thinking. You hate him because he is of the Mormon faith. Why do Democrats always have a problem with people becoming wealthy? Just because I become wealthy does not mean I am in any way obligated to give of my wealth to anyone. I will give as I see fit. I will be damned if the government tells me I HAVE to give it to so and so , or such and such!!! i want the government to control the borders, run the military, and provide financial insurance to the banking system, that’s it, after that, get the hell out of the way.
I am tired of Democrats telling me how I should live my life, and what i have to accept. I don’t have to accept anyone or anything if I don’t want to. And I have the right to live my life the way I WANT TO, not the way someone else tells me I have to.
Anyone who thinks otherwise can leave if they don’t like it.
