Audio: Barack Obama at the National Association of Black Journalists Convention

Opening Remarks: Listen

  • This is basic stump speech stuff.

Question and Answer Session: Listen

  • The Q&A session is the most interesting part.
  • The relationship between illegal immigration and African American employment
  • How does he respond to Clinton calling him naive? He goes for the jugular on the experience vs. judgment issue.
  • He talks about his appreciation for the black press because when he was in Chicago, papers like the Chicago Defender were covering work he did when mainstream papers weren’t.
  • He puts the Darfur situation in light of how the U.S. will need to have a broader engaging Africa policy. He talks about how there is relatively little attention on the millions who have been killed in the Congo.
  • He was asked whether he would choose Hillary as a VP. Talks about what his candidacy offers that Clinton and Edwards’ candidacy does not.
  • Will he have a racial conversation like Bill Clinton had and will he apologize for slavery? He is more interested in “talking about action rather than talking about talk.”
  • Talks about Katrina rebuilding.
  • What gives you hope that America is ready for a black President?
  • Addresses the problem with the “Is he black enough?” question.

I loved it when Obama talked about judgement vs experience. though, Obama actually has more experience than Hillary. Her is from being married to a poltician. So what? Since the republicans are looking for a candidate to rally behind, maybe they should run Laura as she has the same experience as Hillary. but, that is for another time.
I have been arguing the point that when people talk experience are they really meaning judgement? Afterall, someone with good judgement trumps experience when experience has no judgement. As so far, Hillary has yet to show she has any.
I also liked the part about action instead of talking about talking.

Oh yeah. This is Obama at his best. I don’t think he’s shown a lot of this side yet, but I believe he will as the race amps up and voters will be drawn to it. I mean, it’s only common sense, right?
