John Edwards Sales Snake Oil at the National Urban League Conference

John Edwards appeared at the National Urban League conference today and said the following:

“If you’re looking, if you’re looking for what’s wrong in Washington, why the system is broken, why the system doesn’t work, one perfect example is what’s been happening over the last four days. We’ve had two good people, Democratic candidates for president, who’ve spent their time attacking each other, instead of attacking the problems that this country’s faced.”

John Edwards is a fraud. He was the first candidate to go on the attack this campaign season. At the NH debate Edwards attacked Clinton and Obama for voting the right way without telling people how they would vote until the last minute. Remember that? He also had his wife attack Clinton for not representing women’s issues.

Now he wants to go to the National Urban League and play innocent? Puhlease.

Furthermore, I believe that the debate Clinton and Obama are having is important. It’s not about who slept with whom or who is more black or feminine than the other. It is about the critical issue of—how should the U.S. approach diplomacy and what position will the Democratic Party take on this as they select a nominee?

John Edwards should not dismiss the debate just to get an opportunistic bump in his poll numbers.

What Edwards really needs to be focused on is explaining his horrendous U.S. Senate record.
