John Edwards recently said to people in Iowa:
“‘It’s not just a question of who you like…It’s not just a question of whose vision you are impressed with. It’s also a question of who is most likely to win the general election. It’s a pretty simple thing. Who will be a stronger candidate in the general election here in the state of Iowa? Who can go to other parts of the country when we have swing candidates running for the Congress and the Senate? Is the candidate going to have to say, “Don’t come here. Down come here and campaign with me. I can’t win if you campaign with me.’”
“He added later, ‘I think it’s just a reality that I can campaign any place in America.’”
Mr. Edwards, tell me that you’re not trying to say what you might be trying to say. Say it ain’t so, man. Say it ain’t so.
Given that Barack Obama is doing better than any of the other Democratic nominees in general election matchups against the Republicans, was highly popular to be asked to campaign in swing states during the 2006 elections, and is winning in SC, your home state, 34% to your 12%, I’m not quite sure what you are trying to say.
I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt until I get some more information. Perhaps you were only talking about Hillary Clinton’s electability. I know the media can take y’all out of context, so I’m going to just not think anything until I hear otherwise.
