Obama’s Best Speech: Religion and Politics

This is the best speech I have heard from Barack Obama and the best speech I have heard in a long time from a politician. Obama addresses the relationship between faith and politics in the United States. He issues a challenges to both liberals and conservatives. As a Christian, it is about time someone said this.

Just curious…. is the gap at the beginning of section three of the above speech there as a matter of editorial disagreement or technical malfunction? Seems to me that he may have had a salient point concerning the rights (or interpretation thereof) of Americans to own firearms…. but as soon as he says “… but I also believe…” it cuts off and skips to his next point.

In any event, I don’t imagine that even if it is editorial that it truly makes a difference, as I am quite sure any viewers could find another copy of the video or a transcript on the net. And certainly the editor of the site can edit the video however they see fit.

Just wanted to point out the discrepency in the video.

    Hi Ed,

Good observation! I actually didn’t notice that when I watched it. I didn’t edit anything. This video is readily available on Youtube. It clearly was edited though by whoever put up the video–and it wasn’t the Obama campaign.

I just found the transcript on the Barack Obama Senate site. The part that was edited out was:

“Solving these problems will require changes in government policy, but it will also require changes in hearts and a change in minds. I believe in keeping guns out of our inner cities, and that our leaders must say so in the face of the gun manufacturers’ lobby - but I also believe that when a gang-banger shoots indiscriminately into a crowd because he feels somebody disrespected him, we’ve got a moral problem. There’s a hole in that young man’s heart - a hole that the government alone cannot fix.”
